Answer by John Mackay
Yes it is true that the Bible records God as a God of love, (1 John 4:16) but it also tells us there is a flip side to love. Almost 3,000 years ago Solomon wrote in his Proverbs about “six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him”. They are: “haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who speaks lies and one who sows discord among brothers”. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
There are many times in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments when God says he hates something, e.g. “the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce” (Malachi 2:16); and “you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate” (Revelation 2:6). So what is hate, and how can God be a God of love if He hates certain things, attitudes, people or actions?
To the world “hate” is currently a political incorrectness, an erroneous and emotion-flamed judgement that must be purged from society. This concept is pushed vigorously by the homosexual/lesbian lobby whose claims fill the print and electronic media and the airwaves, and bombard us daily with their claims for same sex marriage, adoption rights for gays, etc. At the same time they claim any disagreement with their positions is a denial of their human and democratic rights, and is a hate crime that must be dealt with under human law in the severest fashion. In pushing this line they themselves show us the real meaning of hate.
You see, hate is not actually a feeling. It is a choice that results in actions against a person or position. The feelings that often go with such a choice may be anger, or enthusiasm for the action, but these in themselves are not hate. That’s why some of the nicest people can secretly take the strongest actions to enforce their hatred of someone or something without betraying any feelings at all. They act out of cold calculated logic to enforce their position.
So, yes, the God of the Bible hates, and what He hates He acts against. The homosexual lobby also hates, and they act against what they hate. They demand anybody who opposes them be publicly derided, and punished with fines, jail, dismissal from their work, or exclusion from participation in public life. Whatever the law of a country imposes penalties against is an indication of what that society hates. There is no doubt that most of you do not want to be murdered, or have your house burgled, so you do all you can to ensure your elected politicians act against murderers and thieves, and in so doing you indicate you hate murder and theft. It isn’t all that long ago that most of society hated homosexuality and insisted the law enforce their hatred.
It’s not the presence or absence of hatred which has changed, but where a society draws the line on what it is acceptable to hate. The God of the Bible hates murder and therefore legislates against murderers, as well as thieves, drunkards, liars and gluttons, and he also legislates against homosexuality. The Creator of the universe has declared in the New Testament: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. ” (I Corinthians 6:9-10)
Regardless of how many Bishops or politicians, Kings or commoners are in bed with their same-sex partners, the God of the Bible has also judged that those who have no position in His Kingdom will spend eternity reaping His wrath in Hell for doing what He hates.
Of course, if you want Him to change His mind you will have to take it up with Him, and not with us. But we do warn you, He is not interested in democracy as the basis for establishing morality, and He doesn’t need your vote in order to stay in power. The Creator Christ is the maker of the universe and everything in it, including all people, and that is why He alone has the right to tell mankind what is right and wrong. And that is also the sole reason why the homosexual lobby, the politicians, as well as the majority or the minority, do not have the right to determine wrong! This is not their universe, and they did not create man. When atheistic politicians who build their philosophy on Darwin’s evolution, think they can leverage democracy to enforce their own line in the sand as to what we can or can’t hate, they prove themselves fools as they blindly stumble along destroying the very fabric of their own society.
It’s also why they are increasingly legislating against creation in history and science, and in political and religious education. Such groups are not afraid of “little c” christians who think God has no historical creation basis for His authority to return as Judge. But they must remove from any position of authority or acceptability, any “big C” Christians who firmly stand on Genesis as real history, and Christ as Creator and Redeemer and coming Judge.
What is our counsel on love and hate?
Love what God loves, hate what God hates and you will get it right.
If you hate only what man hates you will not only have an ever changing position, but worse still your position will usually be wrong. But if you are going to love something or someone, then what is love? Just as hate is a choice that results in actions against a person, love is a choice that produces action in favour of a person, and the best example of such love is that the Creator God came as the man Jesus to die in our place in order to pay the penalty for our sinful choice to act against Him, which then and now, is the evidence we have hated Him. Yet this Christ chose to love us while we were yet sinners. Oh what a merciful Saviour! Accept His forgiveness today, and draw the line on what you hate, and love where He tells us that line should be.
Homophobia?
We don’t recommend it! The word was coined in the 1960’s using the Greek Homos meaning the same, as in homogeneous (the same stuff) or homosexual (the same sex), and Phobia fear. Don’t be afraid of those who are the same as you! But Theophobia we do recommend! Fear the Creator God who is the author of the “everlasting gospel” described in the Bible’s last book as: “Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” (Revelation 14:6-7)
